Anansi the spider is a popular trickster in West African folklore. Anansi stories may have begun with the Ashanti people of Ghana. These stories were carried to the Caribbean by West African slaves. Modern versions of Anansi can be found in many places including Jamaica, Haiti, Suriname, and the Sea Islands off South Carolina and Georgia. What other trickster tales have you heard of?
