Explain
• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.• Explain that students are going to learn about immigrants:
• What is an immigrant.
• What is the purpose of immigration.
• Why do people relocate.
• What is nationality.
• What is a citizen.
• What is a landmark.
Model
• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask students: What do you see in this photo? (farmers watering grass). Would you ever move for a better job opportunity? (answers will vary).• Ask students: What is it like when you visit a new place? (answers will vary).
• Say: There are all different kinds of people living in different places. Lots of people have immigrated to have better opportunities. These people are called immigrants. Is it hard to move to a new place? Explain. (answers will vary).
Guided Practice
• Guide students through the next three slides, showing them how immigrants came here. Always have the students describe how immigrants are reminded of their birth country.Apply
• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.• After the first game, ask students to talk about why it is important to know where you come from. After the second game, have them discuss why landmarks are important.

• Ask students: Can an immigrant belong to more than one place? Explain.• Summarize for students that immigrants are people that have moved from their birth country to another place. Immigrants move for many different reasons. Although they have relocated, many immigrants still think of their birth country as home while others become citizens of their new home country. Some countries allow people to have dual citizenship where they can be a citizen of their country and another country. Encourage them to think about where they would like to relocate to and if they would like to become a citizen of that country.
