Objectives

• Students will use the Internet to read poetry.
• Students will read instructions about writing a specific type of poetry.
• Students will write a poem following guidelines set by the Web site's Poetry Class section.

Description

This is a well• designed, student• friendly Web site run by poet Bruce Lansky. It features poetry that is fun to read and a poetry writing tutorial for students.

Suggested Activities

• Students can connect to http://www.gigglepoetry.com/ and click on Poetry Fun, then Poetry Race. Here they can read tongue twister poems and compete with other students to see who can read them the fastest.
• Students can click on Poetry Fun then Rhyme• Time Riddles to answer riddles with rhyming words.
• Students can select Poetry Theater then choose a poetry play to perform with a small group.

Level Activities

• Have students click on http://www.dreamagic.com/poetry/children.html. Ask them to choose and read poems submitted by children from all over the world. Then have them list three of their favorite poems from the site and:
Approaching explain why they liked them.
On level identify what types of poems they are, based on what they read in the Poetry Class section of www.gigglepoetry.com.
Beyond identify what types of poems they are and then write three poems of their own using the same style.
