Objectives
Students will use the Internet to do research and inquiry about food chains.Students will learn about the difference between carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores.
Students will construct a food chain.
Students will write a summary of this particular food chain.
Brief Description of the Internet site:
Ecokids.ca is a site that teaches students about different parts of the environment. Much of the content is geared toward promoting awareness about conservation and environmental protection.
Additional Suggested Activities:
Have students click on the frog at the end of the food chain exercise to see what would happen if the frog were removed from the food chain. Have them hypothesize about what would happen to the food chain if each of the other animals were to be removed.
Leveled Activities:
Have students connect to http://www.sciencebob.com/lab/q-web-chain.html. Then, have them:
read about the differences between food chains and food webs.
Have them draw and label a simple food chain.
Have them click on Show Me Pictures! to see examples of a food chain and a food web. Then, have them draw and label a food web of their own.
