Objectives

• Children will use the Internet to learn how baby animals grow to be adult animals.
• Children will learn that baby animals look like their parents when they grow up.
• Children will learn that baby animals grow by eating, sleeping, and exercising.
• Children will label pictures of baby animals eating, sleeping, and exercising.

Suggested Activities

• Look at the Web site again. Have children make an "Animals Grow" book. Have them choose an animal to learn more about, anything from a puppy to a butterfly. Have them make a 3• 5 page book with a title page, showing the growth of an animal from birth to adulthood (see art at the top of the Web page of the duck as an example). Have them label the ages of the animal on each page of the book, and include pictures of baby animals eating, sleeping, and/or exercising.
• Bring chick eggs into the classroom and place them in a tank with incubator lights. Have children track how long it takes for the eggs to hatch and what the chicks look like when they are born. Have them draw a picture of what they think the chick will look like when it grows to be an adult.
