Content Objectives

Children will:

• Learn about the concept of transportation to go places.
• Access prior knowledge and build background about transportation.
• Explore and apply the concept of transportion.

Children will:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of transportation.
• Orally use words that describe transportation.
• Extend oral vocabulary by speaking about transportation.
• Use key concept words [wheel, adventure].

Other

Explain

• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.
• Explain that children are going to learn about the concept of transportation:
• Which vehicles use wheels.
• How many wheels different vehicles have.

Model

• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask children: What do you see in this picture? (tires)
• Ask children: How do wheels help a vehicle move? (Answers will vary)
• Say: Today, we are going to learn about vehicles. Many vehicles, like cars and trucks, have wheels. Can you name a vehicle that does not have wheels? (Answers will vary)

Guided Practice

• Guide children through the next three slides, showing them that not all vehicles have the same number of wheels. Always have the children identify the number of wheels.

Apply

• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.
• After the first game, ask children to talk about an adventure they would like to go on. After the second game, have them discuss shapes they see around the classroom.

Close

• Ask children: Do you know of any vehicle that might have more wheels than a bike? What about a car? Explain.
• Say: Many people travel in vehicles. When they travel, sometimes they go on an adventure. An adventure is something that is fun and exciting. Think about different adventures you have been on. Also, think about adventures you want to go on when you grow up!
