Travel Tips

Objectives

• Students will choose a city and state and read the blog written about Buster's travels in that state.
• Students will choose a different city and state and read the blog written about Buster's travels in the new state.
• Students will compare and contrast the two blogs to see which of the activities Buster engaged in were similar in both cities and which were different.

Description

This Web site was created by WGBH Interactive. It includes• in addition to a fictional travel blog• travel themed games (most of which require Flash), songs, video clips, recipes, and lesson plans.

Suggested Activities

• Have students connect to http://pbskids.org/buster/sneakpreview/busterquiz.html and play the travel quiz. When they finish the quiz, have students create their own quiz about their home city or town. What points of interest might a tourist visit? What interesting facts may he or she enjoy learning?
• Have students go home and ask a parent or older sibling to help them make one of the recipes listed on the site. Have students bring their foods in for a travel party!

Level Activities

• Have students connect to http://www.tripkids.com/fun/Travel• tips.html and click on General Packing under "Packing Lists." After students read the packing list, they can read the "To Do" lists and the "Travel Tips" list. Ask students:
to choose somewhere they would like to go on vacation and make a list of things to pack that are appropriate for their destination.
to choose somewhere they would like to go on vacation, make a list of things to pack, and write a "to do" list of things they would need accomplish before they left.
create a small travel brochure for a specific destination that tells tourists how to plan for their vacation.
