Description

This PBS Web site teaches children about different kinds of poetry and allows them to create and submit a poem.

Suggested Activities

• Have students read their poem to a partner. • Connect to http://www.lancsngfl.ac.uk/curriculum/literacy/lit_site/html/fiction/narrative/index.htm and read more narrative poems.

Level Activities

Have students connect to http://www.cswnet.com/~erin/child.htm#ballads :
 click on Antonio and read the poem.
  click on Pirate Don Durk of Dowdee, read the poem and on a separate sheet of paper, make a list of ways in which ballads are different from narrative poems.
  click on Highwayman, read the poem and then on a separate sheet of paper, write their own ballad.
