Explain
• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.• Explain that children are going to learn about:
• What is a family.
• What is a connection.
• What is support.
Model
• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask children: How many people are in this family? (Twelve). How many people are in your family? (answers will vary).• Ask children: Why are families important? (support, help, love, etc.)
• Say: Some people have large families while other people have small families. Families can consist of a mom, a dad, a brother, a sister, a grandparent, a cousin, an aunt, an uncle, and even a pet! Do you have any pets in your family? (answers will vary).
Guided Practice
• Guide children through the next three slides, showing them different members of a family. Always have the children talk about what the families are doing.Apply
• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.• After the first game, ask children to talk about the different connections they have with each family member. After the second game, have them discuss their favorite thing to do with their family.

Some families are made up of different people such as a mom, dad, grandparent, brother, or sister. Everyone shares a different connection with each family member.
