Objectives
• Children will use the Internet to do research and inquiry on vegetables.
• Children will learn more about what parts of a plant different vegetables are.
• Children will complete an online computer assignment by learning about how vegetables grow and the different parts of plants. Children will then finish sentences about the different parts of plants.
Description
The site is presented by Fossweb, the official site for the inquiry• based FOSS science curriculum. The site has science activities and information for students in grades K• 8. The site also provides resources for parents and teachers.
Suggested Activities
Have students name their favorite vegetable and what part of a plant it is.
Level Activities
Have students connect to http://www.hhmi.org/coolscience/vegquiz/plantparts.html. Then have students:
Click on the vegetables and select the correct part of the plant to make a salad.
Create a shopping list for making a salad.
List a plant part for each item on their shopping list.
