Explain
• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.• Explain that students are going to learn about food around the world:
• Food is a source of nutrition, something that all people need to be healthy.
• Food gives families around the world a reason to gather together.
• Examples of different foods from around the world.
Model
• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask students: What are the people in the photograph doing? (eating dinner, having a meal, eating food).• Ask students: When your family enjoys a meal together, what are some foods you eat? (answers will vary). • Say: People all over the world sit down to eat together. The foods people eat around the world are very different from country to country, but people all over the world enjoy spending mealtime together. What different foods have you had? (answers will vary).
Guided Practice
• Guide students through the next four slides, showing them different foods that people eat around the world. Always have the students discuss whether or not they would try that dish.Apply
• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.• After the first game, ask students to imagine a large family meal and discuss the kinds of foods they would like to eat. After the second game, have them discuss the kinds of foods their families eat on different holidays.

• Ask students: What is your favorite food? Why?• Summarize for students that food is very important to our health because it provides the nutrition that we need to stay healthy. Food also represents various traditions. Encourage them to think about traditions vary from culture to culture.
