Explain
• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.• Explain that students are going to learn about getting along:
• Getting involved means lending your time and effort to help get something done.
• Volunteering in the community is a good way to get involved.
• We can get involved by helping the environment.
• Another good way to get involved is to express your opinions to the government.
Model
• After the host introduces the slide show, point to the photo on screen. Ask students: What do you see in this picture? (volunteers, a soup kitchen, people helping).• Ask students: Who are these volunteers helping? (people who need food, people who need homes, the community).
• Say: Getting involved means helping others. A great way to get involved is to volunteer in your community. What would you like to volunteer for in your school? (answers will vary).
Guided Practice
• Guide students through the next three slides, showing them different ways to get involved. Always have the students discuss how they can get involved.Apply
• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.• After the first game, ask students to find and discuss their experiences with getting involved. After the second game, have them discuss ideas for a class project that involves helping the community.

• Ask students: Why is it important to get involved?• Summarize for students that getting involved means to help out. They can help out in their communities or in their schools. Encourage them to think of causes that they would like to get involved with.
