Explain

• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.
• Explain that students are going to learn about working together:
• When people work side by side and help each other to get something done, they are working together.
• Good examples of working together can be found at the zoo – zookeepers, veterinarians, and research scientists all work together to learn about animals and keep them healthy.
• It's important to work together with your friends, fellow students, and teachers.

Model

• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask students: What is unusual about the dog in this picture? (the dog is wearing a special harness).
• Say: This is a seeing• eye dog. What does a seeing• eye dog do? (helps vision• impaired people to get around).
• Say: A vision impaired person and his or her seeing• eye dog is a good example of animals and people working together. They work together to get around. Who takes care of animals in the zoo? (zookeepers). Who takes care of animals when they are sick? (veterinarians).

Guided Practice

• Guide students through the next three slides, showing them different examples of working together. Always have the students discuss whether the would want to be a zookeeper or a veterinarian.

Apply

• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.
• After the first game, ask students to tell about a time when they had to work together with a friend in school. After the second game, have them discuss ground rules for working together.

Close

• Ask students: When do you enjoy working together the most?
• Summarize for students that working together is a good idea because you can get more done. Sometimes animals work with people. Encourage them to think of other ways that animals and people work together.
