Explain
• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.• Explain that students are going to learn about wildlife:
• What is wildlife.
• Where does wildlife live.
• What are the threats to wildlife.
• How to view wildlife.
• What is a predator.
Model
• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask students: What do you see in this photo? (giraffes, elephants, zebras). Where are these animals? (outside, near trees and water).• Ask students: Would you find these animals near your home? (No).
• Say: Wild animals are animals that naturally live in an area. Some wild animals are elephants, zebras and tigers. Wild animals don't live with humans. Why do you think wild animals don't live with humans? (they can't live in a house, they can't behave, they are too big).
Guided Practice
• Guide students through the next three slides, showing them what wild animals are. Always have the students describe why they are wild animals.Apply
• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.• After the first game, ask students to talk about other wild animals that can't be pets. After the second game, have them discuss how we can stop animals from becoming endangered.
Close
• Ask students: What happens if we don't protect endangered animals? Explain.• Summarize for students that wild animals are living creatures so it's important to protect them. Destroying their habitat and too many predators puts them in danger of dying out. Encourage them to think about what they would do if their home was destroyed.
