Explain
• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.• Explain that students are going to learn about:
• Scientists and the ways that they work.
• How scientists make discoveries.
Model
• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask students: What does this person do for a living? (look for fossils).• Ask students: Why is this important? (To learn about the past so we can have a better future.)
• Say: In this activity, we're going to learn about scientists and the ways that they work. What discoveries would you like to make? (answers will vary).
Guided Practice
• Guide students through the next two slides, showing them scientists at work and how scientists make discoveries. Always have the students describe how these tools help scientists.Apply
• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.• After the first game, ask students to talk about experiments that they have done. After the second game, have them discuss what type of scientist they would most like to be, and why.

• Ask students: What would you like to study if you were a scientist?• Summarize for students that scientists use many different tools to do their work. Encourage them to think about some of the important discoveries that scientists have made.
