• Demonstrate an understanding of bicycles.• Orally use words that name the various parts of a bicycle.
• Extend oral vocabulary by speaking about accessories associated with bicycles and using terminology related with cycling.
• Use key concept words [cycling, exercise, pedal, gear, chain, helmet, reflector, cardiovascular, Tour De France].

Explain
• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.• Explain that students are going to learn about bicycles and cycling:
• What a bicycle can be used for.
• How the parts of a bicycle work together.
• Where and how to ride a bike.
Model
• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask students: Why do people go cycling? (transportation, exercise, fun, etc.)• Ask students: What are some parts of a bicycle? (pedals, handlebars, spokes, etc.)
• Say: Bicycles are a great way to go from one place to another. By using bicycles instead of cars, we help to keep the environment clean. Riding bicycles is also good exercise for our body. What are some things you should use when you go cycling? (bike helmet, reflectors, etc.).
Guided Practice
• Guide the students through the next four slides showing them various parts of a bicycle. Always have the students identify each part and explain what it does.Apply
• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.• After the first game, ask students to talk about their own bicycles, or bicycles they have ridden. After the second game, encourage them to share stories about fun or exciting experiences they have had while cycling.
Close
• Ask students: What is your favorite thing to do when you go cycling?• Summarize for students that cycling is healthy for our body and for the environment. Encourage them to work with partners to come up with a list of fun activities to do with a bicycle.
