• Learn about the concept of time travel.• Access prior knowledge and build background about time and science fiction.
• Explore and apply the differences between conventional travel and time travel and the concept of altering time.

• Demonstrate an understanding of time travel.• Orally use words that name various time periods and devices associated with time travel.
• Extend oral vocabulary by speaking about the various theories of how time travel works and the implications of altering the past.
• Use key concept words [instantly, destination, theory, evidence, time machine, continuum, portal, science• fiction, futuristic, alter, past, present].

Explain
• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.• Explain that students are going to learn about time travel:
• What is the time continuum.
• The various theoretical forms of time travel.
• The relationship between time travel and science fiction.
Model
• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask students: What is time travel? (traveling from one moment in time to another instantly).• Ask students: Has time travel ever been accomplished? (No, it is a scientific theory).
• Say: If you read science fiction, then you may have read about time travel. Time travel involves traveling through time. What are some tools people believe could make time travel possible? (time machines, time portals, etc.)
Guided Practice
• Guide students through the next four slides showing them pictures from various time periods. Always have the students identify the year as accurately as possible.Apply
• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.• After the first game, ask students what personal interest they have in science fiction. After the second game, encourage them to discuss science• fiction movies, comics or stories they have read that included time travel, describing the specific way time travel was depicted in the various media.

• Ask students: If you could time travel to any time period, past or future, where would you go? Why?• Summarize for students that time traveling is a theory. We haven't discovered a way to travel through time yet. However, there are many books, articles, and movies about time traveling. Encourag them to write an imaginary journal entry describing their adventures in the time period that they chose.
