Content Objectives

Explain

• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.
• Explain that children are going to learn about insects:
• What are insects.
• Types of insects.

Model

• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask children: What do you see in this picture? (answers will vary).
• Say: Today we are going to learn about insects. There are many different types of insects. Some insects can crawl. Some insects can fly. What does an insect look like? (answers will vary).

Guided Practice

• Guide children through the next four slides, showing them that many insects have wings, but not all insects do. Always have the children describe whether they like insects.

Apply

• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.
• After the first game, ask children to talk about the difference between insects and other animals. After the second game, have them discuss things that are fast and/or slow.

Close

• Ask children: What kinds of insects have you seen? Explain.
• Say: Insects are different than pets. Many have wings and tiny legs. Think about your favorite type of insect.
