• Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of the five senses.
• Orally use words that describe gardens.
• Extend oral vocabulary by speaking about the five senses.
• Use key concept words [garden, senses].

Explain

• Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.
• Explain that children are going to learn about the five senses:
• What are the five senses.
• Gardens.

Model

• After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on screen. Ask children: What do you see in this picture? (a child).
• Ask children: What color are your eyes? (answers will vary). What are some other eye colors that people have? (blue, brown, green, hazel).
• Say: Today we are going to learn about the five senses. People see with their eyes. What other senses do people have? (hearing, touch, smelling, tasting).

Guided Practice

• Guide children through the next four slides, showing them that people can not only see, but they can smell and taste. Always have the children describe their favorite sense.

Apply

• Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About It feature.
• After the first game, ask children to talk about their five senses. After the second game, have them discuss where books are located in the room.

Close

• Ask children: What can you see, smell, taste, touch, and hear right now? Explain.
• Say: Everyone has five senses. Think about what it would be like if you couldn't taste your favorite food.
