• Students will use the Internet to do research and inquiry on lyric poetry.
• Students will learn about the history and features of lyric poetry.
• Students will read and compare two different lyric poems.
The site is part of Lyricalworks, an organization which aims to help individuals explore themselves and their imaginations in order to create art.
• Have students write their own lyric poems. They can then read their poems aloud to the class and compile them in a class lyric poetry book.
Have students connect to: http://www.factmonster.com/spot/pmglossary1.html. Then have students:
find Lyric in the glossary. Ask them what a lyric poem often resembles.
click on Lyric and read the information that appears. Have them choose one poet listed. Have them search the Internet or the school library to find a lyric poem written by that poet.
read about the various poetry terms listed in the glossary. Then have students read the poem they wrote to the class and briefly discuss its significance and what literary devices appear in it.
