African Folktales

6th Grade, Research and Inquiry Activities

1. Connect to this link: http://www.phillipmartin.info/liberia/text_folktales_intro.htm.

2. This page links to three different stories: Spider and the Honey Tree, Black Snake and the Eggs, and The Chief Who Was No Fool.

3. Click on the title of one of the stories. Read the folktale then write down its title and one or two sentences explaining the meaning.

4. Return to the page where you started. Select the title of another story. Read that folktale, then write down its title and one or two sentences explaining its meaning.

5. Create a chart that compares and contrasts the two stories you read. Include information about characters, setting, and meaning.
